Sega Digio SJ-1: The 1996 Sega LCD Digital Camera

July 19, 2019 by 31 Comments

Setting up and trying out Sega’s ONLY digital camera: the Digio SJ-1 from 1996! Meant for use with things like the Sega Picture Magic, PriFun, and NEC PC-9821 computers, the Digio is one fascinating piece of 90s retro tech.

How did I not know about the Sega Digio SJ-1? I'm a fan of Sega hardware and I still play games on my Sega Genesis from time to time, but I had no idea this existed even! ๐Ÿ™

  3. In a parallel universe, Sega acquires Olympus and released its first APS-C DSLR in 2007, then a full frame with a wide OM lens compatibility since 2009, competing against Nikon/Sony, since they could not compete against Nintendo-SGI's workstation market that crashed Apple.

I like the grain/vibe of retro cameras, in the digital kind, not film, I should shoot more with my Cyber-Shot. going back to basics, hard mode, no rafale mode.

I love the picture of the 1988 Toyota Nova there. Too bad it had the fake Chevrolet badge. GM really knows how to ruin a Corolla.

I remember the PriFun and wanting it so bad unfortunately never got it. Didn't have money at the time. It was clearance priced too. Damn! Seeing it in a Funcoland magazine back cover advertisement. I remember reading the description , and thinking the machine was so ahead of its time.
