Where do these prices come from?

Every time the Disk & SSD Tracker refreshes (every few hours) it logs each matching listing (from eBay, Amazon and other stores, via PricePerGig) to this site's own price history database. This page summarizes that history. It's our own data, not copied from another site, and the listing itself is always the final word on price and condition.

About the 20TB external hard drive

Listings for 20TB external hard drives from the Disk & SSD Tracker, grouped by nominal size: new, used and recertified drives from every brand. Prices here are for the whole drive; the per-TB figure is the price divided by 20.

External drives are often cheaper per TB than the same drive sold bare, which is why people "shuck" them: take the drive out of the enclosure and use it internally. That can void the warranty.
Some shucked drives need the 3.3V pin taped over before they spin up on certain power supplies.
