Server Hard Drive Part Number Lookup
Dell, Lenovo/IBM, HGST and Seagate part numbers decoded: what the drive is, and what it sells for.
By Brandon Sheley · Updated
Short answer: find the number in the table below to see the capacity, interface and speed. Dell part numbers (DP/N) are five characters, often written with a leading zero (K7VW5 = 0K7VW5). Lenovo and IBM drives carry several part numbers for the same drive, while HGST 0F numbers and Seagate ST model numbers point to one exact model. Once you know what the drive is, compare it against the going rate for that capacity and interface.
No match on this page. Try the number without its leading zero or dashes, or search eBay for it.
Part Number Lookup
These are the part numbers people search for most often on this site. Each one was identified from the parts-reseller listing linked in its row; check the label on the drive itself before you buy, since OEM numbers can cover drives from more than one manufacturer.

Part Numbers in Today's Listings
Drives on my disk tracker as of Oct 30, 2026 whose listing titles include a model or OEM part number, cheapest first. This list changes every few hours as listings come and go.
How to Read Each Brand's Part Numbers
- Seagate (ST...): the digits after ST are the capacity in gigabytes, so ST4000NM0095 is 4,000GB and ST600MP0036 is 600GB. In the Seagate drives on this page, the next two letters line up with the drive class: NM for 3.5-inch nearline, NX for 2.5-inch nearline, MM for 10K RPM and MP for 15K RPM.
- HGST / Western Digital (0F...): the 0F number is the ordering number for one exact configuration, and the model (such as HUH721010AL5200) is printed on the label too. Two 0F numbers can share a model: resellers list both 0F27352 and 0F27398 as HUH721010AL5200.
- Dell (DP/N): five characters, usually written with a leading zero (K7VW5 or 0K7VW5). It identifies the drive Dell qualified, not one manufacturer, so the maker's model on the label can differ between two drives with the same DP/N.
- Lenovo / IBM (00...): one drive usually has several numbers: an option part number, one or more FRU (replacement) numbers, and on ThinkSystem drives a 7XB7A... number. 00FN208, 00FN209 and 00FN212 are all the same 4TB SAS drive, so search for each of them.
- HPE (...-B21, ...-001): numbers ending in -B21 are option kits and numbers ending in -001 are spare parts, and both can describe the same drive.
What to Check Before Buying a Used Server Drive
- SAS or SATA. SAS drives need a SAS HBA or backplane and won't run from a motherboard SATA port.
- Sector format. 512n and 512e drives work almost everywhere. 4Kn drives, like the ST4000NM0095, need controller and OS support.
- 520-byte sectors. Drives pulled from NetApp, EMC and similar storage arrays are often formatted with 520-byte sectors and have to be reformatted to 512 (for example with
sg_formaton Linux) before a normal server will use them. - Self-encrypting drives. A used SED that a previous system locked needs a PSID revert, using the code on its label, before you can use it.
- The tray. Dell, HPE and Lenovo trays aren't interchangeable, so make sure the listing includes the right one if your server needs it.
- Health. Ask for SMART data or power-on hours on used drives, and run a long self-test when they arrive.
Small 10K and 15K SAS drives are cheap to buy but cost a lot per terabyte. Compare against large nearline drives on the cost per TB page before filling a server with them. Buying used SSDs instead? See is a used enterprise SSD worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Dell DP/N, and why do some start with a 0?
A DP/N is a Dell part number, such as K7VW5. It's often written with a leading zero, so K7VW5 and 0K7VW5 are the same part; search for both. One Dell part number can cover drives built by different manufacturers, so the maker's model printed next to it on the label can vary from drive to drive.
Will a Dell, HPE or Lenovo branded drive work in another server or a NAS?
Usually, yes. Under the label it's a standard SAS or SATA drive, though it may run the server maker's firmware. The drive tray is what doesn't carry over between brands, SAS drives need a SAS controller or backplane, and some controllers and NAS units don't support 4Kn drives, so check the sector format before you buy.
How do I find the price of a hard drive from its part number?
Search the exact part number, plus any alternate numbers for the same drive, on eBay and on parts-reseller sites, then compare what you find with the going rate for the same capacity, interface and speed. My disk tracker's price history by drive size is a quick check for larger drives.
Can I use a SAS drive in a regular PC or NAS?
Not on a normal SATA port. SAS drives need a SAS host bus adapter or a SAS backplane, although a SAS controller can also run SATA drives. Many consumer NAS units only take SATA drives, so check the maker's compatibility list first.
What does SED mean on a drive listing?
SED means self-encrypting drive. It works like a normal drive until its encryption is turned on, but a used SED that a previous system locked can't be used until it is reset with the PSID printed on its label, which erases the drive.
