Dates are from endoflife.date, which links each one to the vendor's own policy. Releases that ended more than a year ago are left out. Missing a product? It probably has an endoflife.date page, and I can add it.
What This Means for a Homelab
- Still on Proxmox VE 8? Its security support ended on Aug 31, 2026. Run
pve8to9 --full, back up first, and follow the upgrade notes on Proxmox updates. New installs: install Proxmox VE 9. - Containers inherit their base image's support. An LXC built on Debian 11 stops getting fixes when Debian 11 does, even on a current Proxmox host. Check with
cat /etc/os-releaseinside each one. - ESXi after Broadcom: the dates above still apply, but Broadcom ended perpetual licenses and patch downloads generally need a paid subscription. That's the main reason homelabs move to Proxmox: see Proxmox vs ESXi.
- Self-hosted apps: the runtimes and databases under them (PHP, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, MariaDB) have their own end dates. Container images usually move on for you; installs from a distro package follow the distro's dates instead.
- An end date isn't a shutdown. Nothing stops working on that day. It just stops getting security fixes, which matters most for anything reachable from the internet.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does Proxmox VE 8 reach end of life?
Proxmox VE 8 reached end of life on Aug 31, 2026 and no longer gets security updates. Proxmox VE 9 (latest 9.2) is the supported release, and Proxmox supports upgrading from 8 to 9 in place with the pve8to9 checklist script.
Is Windows 10 still supported?
No. Free support for Windows 10 (version 22H2) ended on Oct 14, 2025. Paid Extended Security Updates, mainly for businesses, run until Oct 10, 2028. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 has its own, later date, listed in the table above, and Windows 11 is the supported upgrade.
When does Debian 12 Bookworm end support?
Debian 12 regular security support ended on Jul 11, 2026, and Debian LTS continues until Jun 30, 2028. Paid extended LTS runs until Jun 30, 2033. Proxmox VE 9 is built on Debian 13.
Which PHP versions are still supported?
As of Oct 30, 2026: PHP 8.5 (active support), 8.4 (active support), 8.3 (security fixes until Dec 31, 2027), 8.2 (security fixes until Dec 31, 2026). Anything older gets no security fixes from the PHP project.
Where do these end-of-life dates come from?
From endoflife.date, a community-maintained project that tracks vendor support policies, with data under the MIT license.
